About Laura

Laura Davisson, MD, MPH, FACP, is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at West Virginia University School of Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and earned her medical degree and MPH from WVU. Dr. Davisson completed an internal medicine residency at WVU and served as Chief Resident. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.


In two decades of practicing internal medicine, Dr. Davisson saw the role of obesity in many chronic medical conditions she treated. This experience, along with her interest in public health and prevention, led her to obtain certification from the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Dr. Davisson founded and directs WVU Medicine's Medical Weight Management Program, which provides team-based, patient-centered care.


Dr. Davisson is active in medical education. She is the founder and fellowship director of WV's first obesity medicine fellowship. She serves on committees in the American Board of Obesity Medicine and the Obesity Medicine Association. As Associate Program Director for Research and QI, Dr. Davisson directs internal medicine resident quality improvement activities.


Dr. Davisson served a four-year term on the American College of Physicians (ACP) Board of Governors as the WV Chapter Governor until April 2023 and served on ACP's Education Committee. She enjoys participating in outreach activities, such as speaking and writing on various health topics, and advocating for the prevention and treatment of obesity.
